Lucknow: Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, 21 lakh farmers selected in Uttar Pradesh have been found ineligible in an investigation, the state’s Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said on Wednesday.
The amount awarded so far to ineligible farmers under the scheme will be clawed back, the minister added.
A total of 2.85 million farmers have been selected under the Center’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme in the state, out of which 21 lakh beneficiaries have been deemed ineligible, Shahi told reporters here.
There are many cases where husband and wife both benefit from this scheme, he said, adding that those who were not eligible included many income tax filers.
The minister said the amount will be recovered from ineligible farmers.
About the verification, Shahi said it is a routine process and complaints, if any, are also reviewed during the process.
Among those deemed ineligible were many who used to file tax returns, he noted.
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is a central program 100% funded by the Government of India. Under this scheme, income support of Rs 6,000 per annum in three equal installments is given to all land-owning farming families.
The fund is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
On February 24, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, transferring the first installment of Rs 2,000 each to more than one crore farmers.
The scheme was frequently mentioned by BJP leaders during the recent Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.
Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister informed that the 12th tranche of Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme will be released by the end of this month, and only those farmers whose land records and on-site verification works are uploaded on the PM-Kisan portal will receive the benefit of the scheme.
Additional Chief Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi said the process of uploading data to Kisan portal is on a war footing and the 12th installment of Kisan Samman Nidhi will be given to all eligible farmers.
The Minister of Agriculture said that so far the work of uploading the land records of 1.51 crore farmers has been done on the portal.
He called on farmers to upload their data to the portal as soon as possible.
