Director of Agriculture distributes vegetable seedlings, cereals and fodder seeds to affected farmers in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 09: Kashmir Director of Agriculture Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal on Monday visited the hailstorm which affected Fakir Gujree, Dhara, Syed Pora and some other adjacent villages in Harwan area of Srinagar.
During the visit, the director distributed 20,000 seedlings of different vegetable crops, fodder crops, maize seeds, among the farmers affected by the recent hailstorm in the presence of PRI representatives, including the DDC Dara Mohammad Shaban Chopan, the DDC member Fakir Gujree Shaista, Sarpanch Fakir Gujree Shamima Akhter and Chief Agricultural Officer Srinagar Mohammad Younis Chowdhary.
A number of farmer delegations met with the Director and provided him with feedback and expressed satisfaction with the immediate mitigation measures initiated by the Department and the technical advice provided by field officers to the affected farmers.
The director said hail is a natural phenomenon that occurs but the department is committed and will take all necessary measures to minimize the impact of the losses on the farming community and the distribution of different inputs among the affected farmers is a step in that direction.
He requested the concerned field officers/officials to work hand in hand with the hail affected farmers in the region and provide them with all possible technical support needed under the current circumstances so that the economic security of the farmers can be ensured. .
The director urged relevant officers to introduce special farmer-centered initiatives in hail-affected areas so that the losses caused to various agricultural crops can be mitigated.
