Governor Buni announces sales and distributions of subsidized fertilizers for the 2022 agricultural season


As part of his commitment to revitalize agriculture for food sufficiency, security and economic empowerment, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni on Monday announced the sales and distributions of fertilizer to 20 10:10 a.m. for the 2022 agricultural season in the state.

During the ceremony which took place at the center of the event, Government House Damaturu, Buni said that agriculture remains the main concern of the people of the state stresses that his administration will therefore continue to grant the sector l priority attention it deserves, and to be in tune with the federal government’s policy on agriculture as one of the most important sectors of the national economy.

The governor noted that his administration in the state is dedicated to creating the right platform to help citizens create jobs, build self-reliance and food sufficiency, and contribute to the national agricultural policy for the achieving food security in Nigeria.

Buni said, “As you may know, the United Nations has warned of anticipated food scarcity and scarcity due to certain human and natural factors. Here in Nigeria, the security challenge in some parts of the country may affect food production. We should therefore take advantage of the improved security situation in the state to increase our agricultural production, and also engage in irrigated agriculture.

“The state government, in collaboration with the World Bank, the African Union (AU) and the federal government, has completed the implementation of a five-year climate change adaptation and support program. agribusiness in March this year and we have already granted approval for the continuation of the program beyond co-funding to the state as previously proposed.

“We are processing the sum of N4 Billion Naira Reimbursable Matching Funds for the implementation of Innovative Capacity Building of Smallholder Farmers for Land Restoration under COVID-19 in Nigeria which will be 100% funded. % by the African Union, adequate arrangements have been concluded for the start of the project. We are also working with our development partners and relevant federal agencies to accelerate irrigation and livestock development in the state.

He revealed that in order for the state to maintain gains in agricultural production, the government has adopted a policy of making fertilizer available to farmers at subsidized rates.

He noted that “I have therefore approved the sum of N13,000 per bag of fertilizer to be sold to our farmers. Let me warn you that the government will not tolerate any act of embezzlement or sabotage,” Buni said.

Governor Buni further said that government officials responsible for the sale and distribution of produce must ensure fair sale and distribution in the 17 local government areas. I also call on our many farmers to avoid reselling the fertilizer, but to ensure its use for their agricultural production and anticipated income generation.

The Governor enjoins the traditional rulers of the state, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, the Kulen Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, community leaders and security to enhance peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the state.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Mario Ahmed Amshi, said Governor Mai Mala Buni has given priority attention to the development of agriculture in the state.

Amshi disclosed that “the current administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni is here distributing NPK 20:10:10 fertilizers to resell to our smallholder farmers who constituted nearly 80% of our rural population at subsidized rates.”

She commended the state government for the positive attention given and timely response to the desire and aspirations of the farmers in Yobe state by embarking on a commendable program for the development of agriculture in the state .
