KUPWARA: Continuing collective efforts to reach out to farmers in remote and border areas of Kashmir Division, the Department of Agricultural Production and Farmers Welfare and the Border Security Force (BSF) today organized a farmer awareness program in Keran, Kupwara.

The sensitization program was jointly inaugurated by Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) Raja Babu Singh and Director of Agriculture of Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal in the presence of Director of Agriculture Kupwara Nazir Ahmad Wani, along with senior department and border security force officers and a large gathering of farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, IG BSF said that over the past few weeks, through the collective efforts of the Department and BSF, several awareness programs for farmers have been organized in different border areas and that this effort will certainly serve this purpose. .

He said these farmer-focused outreach programs for people in border areas will continue in the coming days. He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between BSF, the Department of Agriculture and farmers for the overall development of the agricultural sector in the border areas.

The director of agriculture said on the occasion that the department is engaged in the development of the remote and frontier regions of the Kashmir Valley. He further added that BSF and the Department have already developed a strategy for capacity building and skills empowerment of the farming community in the border areas.

Iqbal highlighted the goals of organizing farmer awareness programs and said that these mass campaigns are meant to focus on farmers at the local level and gather feedback from farmers regarding the impact of the implementation of various programs.

04 numbers of corn shellers as well as all the accessories were distributed free of charge to the panchayats, seedlings of different vegetables, hybrid corn and sweet corn were also distributed to participating farmers on this occasion.
