Maligaon, January 8 (MExN): The first Janshatabdi express train connecting Manipur State to Tripura via Assam was reported by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, via a video link from the Railway Board on Saturday.
Train No. 02097/02098 Agartala – Jiribam – Agartala Janshatabdi The inaugural special trains were reported simultaneously at Agartala and Jiribam stations. The inauguration was honored by G Kishan Reddy, Minister of the Union for Culture, Tourism and Development of the Northeast Region (DoNER), Nongthombam Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur via video link and Biplab Kumar Deb, Chief Minister of Tripura.
Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, Education; Pratima Bhoumik, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment; Vungzagin Valte, Minister of Transport and GAD, Tribal and Hill Affairs, Manipur; Pranajit Singha Roy, Minister of Transport, Tourism, Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Tripura and other dignitaries were also present.
In addition to Agartala and Jiribam from where the hop on and hop off service was inaugurated, the event was also held at the Railway Board, Delhi and at the CM Office, Imphal via videoconference.
The first Janshatabdi express train from Manipur to Tripura via Arunachal (Silchar) station in Assam will connect some important and historic cities like Silchar, Badarpur, New Karimganj, Dharmanagar and Ambassa apart from Jiribam and Agartala the two terminal stations. The train journey will cut the journey time in half as the journey time will be around 06 hours covering a distance of 300 Kms against around 12 hours it takes to travel by road. The three-weekly hourly service of train n ° 12097/12098 Agartala –Jiribam – Agartala Janshatabdi Express on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will start on 10-01-2022 (Monday). The train will leave Agartala at 6:00 a.m. to reach Jiribam at 12:00 p.m. In the return direction, the train will leave Jiribam at 4:00 p.m. to reach Agartala at 10:00 p.m.
