Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-people initiatives, particularly his emphasis on social welfare, have eased people’s hardships and improved their quality of life, the Union Minister of State for information, broadcasting and fisheries, L Murugan.

The benefits derived from the numerous programs of the Modi government are manifold and they touch the lives of the poor, ryots and other sections, which has a positive impact, he asserted. ”The days when people had difficulty getting a GPL connection are over. Now connections can be obtained simply by texting,’ the minister said at a ceremony held here to mark the completion of eight years of BJP-led government at the Centre.

About 32 lakh households in Tamil Nadu have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana program to provide LPG connections to women from households below the poverty line (BPL). That aside, 1.27 crore of drinking water connections have been provided in the state under the Jal Jeevan mission, Murugan said.

”Today, the Prime Minister released the 11th installment of financial benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to farmers, enabling the transfer of Rs 21,000 crore to more than 10 crore from beneficiary farming families,’ the Union minister said at the inauguration of a farmers’ meeting here.

The Jan Dhan bank account system, housing for all and development projects are among the many initiatives that have improved people’s quality of life, he said.

In addition, the central government has proposed to invest Rs 20,000 crore in Tamil Nadu for fisheries projects such as cold storage, establishment of a fish processing plant and deep sea aquaculture. “Five fishing ports including Kasimedu in Chennai will soon be upgraded,” Murugan said.
