Sugar mills that had been closed by previous governments were reopened by the government of Yogi Adityanath, and the state now ranks first in the country for sugar production.

Importance of the sugar industry

The development of the sugar industry is essential to the economic development of the country. Sugar is India’s second largest food industry and contributes significantly to the socio-economic development of the country. Sugar cane is the main raw material used in the production of sugar in India.

India is the world’s largest producer of sugar cane and, after Cuba, the world’s second largest sugar producer. However, when gur and khandsari are included, India overtakes China as the top producer.

Potential of the UP sugar industry

As one of the potential players in the global sugar market, the sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh has a bright future. The demand for sugar is increasing at an alarming rate around the world. With its capacity, the sugar industry of Uttar Pradesh can meet this international demand.

The advantages of the sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh are that the production costs are relatively low and the climatic and soil conditions are favorable for the production of sugar cane. The region of India where the state of Uttar Pradesh is located is known as “doab”, and it is one of the most fertile lands in India. It is a very fertile belt of land between the Ganges and Jamuna rivers.

To boost the production of the sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh, the state government is setting up research and development units that will develop better quality sugar cane plants with higher yields and resilient crops diseases to ensure the long-term growth of the industry. One of the main advantages of the geographical location of Uttar Pradesh is that it is very easy to access.

With all these developments, the sugar industry of Uttar Pradesh will be able to meet the growing domestic demand in India, which is due to improving economic conditions and an increase in the general level of income.
