Uttam urges PM Modi to keep promises made to people

Hyderabad: On Wednesday, Congressman and former TPCC Chairman N Uttam Kumar Reddy asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain when “his year 2022” would arrive and when all the promises he promised to keep by 2022 would be carried out.

The Congress leader, in a statement to the media, alleged that Prime Minister Modi misused the occasion of Independence Day to make false promises in his usual address to the Nation from the Red Fort at every opportunity in the over the past eight years. He recalled that in the 2016 I-Day speech, Modi promised to double farmers’ incomes, ensure a home for everyone and electrification of the whole country by 2022. He alleged that the BJP government had failed miserably in achieving its goals.

Disclosure of details, Uttam said farmers’ income from cultivation has not increased since 2016. Instead, the cost of inputs has more than doubled in the past eight years, while farmers are not earning still averaging only Rs 27 per day as they did in 2014. He said crop losses due to natural disasters, fake seeds and fertilizers and overall losses due to cultivation in the absence of an MSP suitable for many crops forced thousands of farmers to commit suicide. While the previous Congress-led UPA government waived crop loans, the current Modi government has stopped releasing National Crime Records Bureau data to hide farmer suicide figures, he alleged.

The Congress MP said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had imitated Prime Minister Modi in misleading farmers. He did not implement the promise to waive crop loans and implemented bad policies as not a single farmer in Telangana was covered by crop insurance. The TRS government is also stifling farmer suicide figures by ordering local police to register farmer suicide as a natural/accidental death, he alleged. Uttam Kumar Reddy also recalled that PM Modi, during a meeting in 2018, had promised a house for everyone by 2022. The data available on the site of PM Awas Yojana (Urban) tells us that not even 50% of the 60 lakh sanctioned houses are completed.

“I would humbly ask the Prime Minister to clarify when his Golden Year 2022 will arrive and when will every deserving family get a home?” He asked.
